  • Should I carry on having guitar lessons?

Posted by admin on December 4th, 2009 and filed under guitar lessons software | 2 Comments »

Im not sure if I should carry on having guitar lessons or stop and self-teach myself? The lessons are really expensive and its probably cheaper if I stop and learn by myself… Well there’s loads of guitar learning dvd’s and software that can help you learn? What would you do if you were in this situation? Any tips or good sites that could help me learn and expand my guitar playing capailities.
Here’s a clip of me, Its cut short because of an annoying video convertor..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIarfyhO5hM

    dang! you are good!
i think you should stop wasting loads of $$ and self teach
    you are good enough!!

I am looking for some Guitar lessons?

Posted by admin on December 1st, 2009 and filed under guitar lessons software | 2 Comments »

    Hello everybody
I have bought a guitar for my 8 years old son. This is the first time that he has guitar, so he does not know anything about playing guitar. I am looking for a good lesson for him. specially some good video and software for this aim.
I will appreciate if somebody give me a list for this end.
    Thanks

Unless your 8-year old is a very, very rare personality, the worst thing you can do is hand him a book or some sort of audio/video teaching system. He’ll be bored to tears and learn to hate the guitar.

Get him into some group guitar classes for children. The YMCA in my area has a Youth Guitar class for ages 8-12. It’s beautiful, because the kids get to see their peers struggling with the same things they struggle with. That builds a lot of confidence.

Plus, it’s an extra-curricular activity that’s on a schedule; you don’t have to worry about your child being completely self-motivated. Even if he doesn’t routinely practice in between classes, after 8 weeks of weekly lessons, he will be more familiar and comfortable with the instrument.

And, if not, then the guitar just might not be the instrument for him. Cheap and easy way to find out. :)

    Good luck!

What guitar learning software would you recommend? ?

I’ve been taking guitar lessons for 2 years now, and have gone through 3 teachers, and to my surprise, I haven’t gotten any better at ALL. It’s like I’ve been playing for only a month, and I blame it on the teachers. They were horrible, they didn’t teach me scales and stuff like that, all they taught me were tabbed songs. I quit, and set it off for a couple of months. I want to get back into it, but I want to know the RIGHT WAY, so I’m gonna do it through DVDs and various Computer software. What DVDs and computer software would you recommend that would help me improve and further my knowledge of playing guitar?

    Hi Oliver

I gather that you understand the mechanics of the guitar after 2 yrs olf courses.
Here is a very good link to learn chords and the scales that go with each chord, as well as the chord progression.

I suggest to learn each chord and the corresponding scale that goes with it. Learn it in 3 different positions and then, move on to chord progressions.

this is oneof the best sites so far and I am sure you can learn tons of stuff here. good luck and email me if you are stuck.
