I’m trying to get beginner guitar lessons for my nephew but I don’t know which is the best to get. He has never played any instrument but is interested in learning to play the guitar now. What is the best site/book (etc) to use for beginner lessons?

This site has some good lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing. There’s lessons on chords, scales, songs and other stuff…

I wouldn’t mind one that talks you through playing various songs rather than learning scales etc.

This one has anything I can think of, that you could possibly want, from beginning to advanced. It has techniques, tabs, soloing, different music styles, you pretty much name it – it’s here.

Are there any really credible decent sites out there to learn how to begin playing an electric guitar. My first lesson’s not until next week and i want to have a base knowledge. I already play the flute and piano so i have a basic knowledge of music theory in general.

Wait for your lessons. The first thing your teacher should impress upon you is the importance of proper hand and finger positioning–that’s something you cannot expect to learn on your own. You don’t want to go in with bad habits that the teacher will need to correct–let him/her guide you to doing it the right way the first time.

I have found some videos on YouTube that aren’t very complete and hard to follow due to homemade video quality, and the "free" sites I find usually try to get you to buy something.

I got a guitar for christmas and i dont know how to play it its been sitting in my room ever since i got it.

I’m 15 and I’d like to learn how to play the guitar. I can play the flute very well, but that’s it. My aunt has an acoustic guitar that she can lend me, but before I start, I’d like to know it’s difficulty level so I can prepare myself. I don’t want to quit in the middle of it. Is it hard to learn? Are there some things that I should know about the guitar before I start?

Was flute hard when you first tried? Did you keep at it because you had the passion to learn?

These guys are right about the sore fingers. Your fingers will get sore at first but they will grow calloused quickly. What most people find hard at first, beyond that, is how to strum, pick and hold down certain notes without "blunting" other strings.

Teaching your fingers to stretch and bend into new positions is hard to get past as well. With time and practice your muscles learn new ways of positioning and stretching that will become second nature.

Remember. Each string can be plucked singularly or strummed with other strings in chords. Some chords are just two or three strings together and others are all.

I found it hard to instantly find my proper finger placement to change chords in time. Your muscles will develop a sense memory over time and it will become easy.

Also, the quality of the guitar will decide its sound, playable and enjoyability. I hope I helped.

I just started playing the acoustic guitar about 3 weeks ago. I know a few chords and i know how to read tabs and thats really all i know. I need some help finding a good website that has lessons for acoustic guitar beginners. I would greatly appreciate it.

Not that I know of.
