  • Where can I get the best electric bass lessons?

Posted by admin on December 1st, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 2 Comments »

I am a vocalist in a punk band and our bassist has moved away. I bought a danelectro longhorn bass and I want to learn to play it so I can fill in. I have never played any kind of guitar. Can you recommend some good video/DVD- type bass lessons for me?

how should i start to give bass guitar lessons?

Posted by admin on November 29th, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 3 Comments »

how should i advertise? also, what should i start off teaching? i mean i have a general idea… but im looking for someone who has experience teaching bass to tell me what they start a student off with. also, im looking to really only teach beginners. any suggestions?

Eh, I’m not exactly a teacher, I’m a beginner, but I think listening to what a beginner needs and can’t find might help. I’ve personally enjoyed the online teachings, but havn’t been able to find a good one. I’m sure that if your site is good you’ll have at least one or two people asking for more that just a website. A website just as a start up, eh?

How long does it normally take to become a decent bass guitar player, while taking regular lessons?

I am about to begin taking bass guitar lessons and I was curious to know roughly how long it would take before I could play in a recording studio maybe? I am very keen to learn and I am focused.

Depends on your rhythm..some people just naturally have it…Playing with your favorite music is the best way to learn to play, lessons if you want in-depth theory, or to read music. Have FUN! P.S. For serious music like blues or jazz, Learn to ‘walk’ the bass line.

Where can I find funding for my son’s double bass lessons?

Posted by admin on November 17th, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 3 Comments »

My son who is 14 plays d.bass at grade 7. He is attending a Grammar School and goes to a place of repute in London to study in their Junior Section. He is well appreciated, and always passes his grade exams with high honours. The problem is the place in London , at next level is becoming expensive and I have to compromise already to fund his music. He recently performed at a Christmas Concert with a full orch. and off course that was my proudest moment. I wonder, if anyone/ organisation funds these rare instruments and their players? Un/fortunately he is chosen with a large group to travel abroad to give concerts ( children/ youth) . I am delighted but, there must be an alternative to taking loans.. Many thanks.

Try getting in touch with the arts council. www.artscouncil.org.uk
They specialise in funding for groups and communities rather than individuals but the group that your son is involved in may be able to apply for a grant. It may be worth looking into.

    Good luck.

Do I need to get guitar/bass lessons again?

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 3 Comments »

I had guitar lessons for a year, then I had bass lessons for a year before quitting because I felt I needed a break. Now I want to start playing bass and guitar again. I play songs at home and I’m going to go through a teach yourself kinda book for both guitar and bass, so do I still need to get lessons?

You need to get together as often as possible with other musicians. Practise and jam and have a good time.

any good bass playing lessons for an already guitar player?

Posted by admin on November 11th, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 2 Comments »

i’m already a guitar player but i found a working bass by a dumpster so i figured why not learn to play.all the lessons ive found so far are too noobish.i just need something to give me how to have it sound good with other instruments.

Well if you’re already good at the guitar, I would just recommend learning some songs on the bass and going from there. Shouldn’t be too hard for you to learn some easy songs…
Remember to play with your fingers, even though you’re used to playing with a pick probably :)

Are bass lessons expensive compared to piano lessons?

Posted by admin on November 8th, 2009 and filed under bass lessons | 1 Comment »

    Also,
Would it cost more to learn on an upright bass rather than an electric bass? Is there even a difference between learning on each?
Also, I want a good, experienced teacher, not just anybody who plays. So about how much do you think that would cost?

BQ: Upright bass vs. electric bass. Which sounds better to you?

I’ve never taken bass lessons, but like most lessons, the price depends on the teacher and how many students he/she takes. My first piano teacher only charged about $40 a month, and my teacher right now charges $260 a month, but she’s really amazing, so it’s worth it. It doesn’t hurt to call up a few teachers and ask them for their pricing, or go to a music store and ask for recommendations.

BA: As an orchestra nerd, I prefer the upright bass, but an electric bass is smaller so it’s probably more sensible.
