I don’t really want to be overcharged because I am a student and I’m just looking out to try something new.
That’s way too expensive. When I first started playing, it paid like $15 or $20 per 1 hour lesson.
But you should know that there’s is some amazing guitar lessons online that can save you loads of money. step by step instructional videos and all that. http://www.wimzy.info/go.php/jamorama-guitar-course/ is one of the number 1 rated guitar lesson sites.

It depends on where you live and the quality of the teacher. I live in Knoxville, TN, and that is exactly double what I charge for lessons. Are you sure that is right and that it’s not $40/hr? If it’s correct, then unless you’re in New York, L.A., D.C., etc. and/or are taking from a very good teacher, that is high. Even in those locations, I wouldn’t think you’d need to pay that much for beginner lessons, but I’m not sure since I’ve never lived in that large of a city. I would ask a student/professor at a local university, and if you’re really concerned about getting the most honest answer possible, make sure it’s someone who doesn’t teach guitar.
