I will be getting lessons soon, and have eMedia guitar method. Is this the best software or is there something better? Also I have a drumset, but wont be getting lessons, and it would be cool if somebody could give me some information to get the best software for learning it.
Get Guitar Pro 5 and then check out songs from http://www.ultimate-guitar.com and download the tabs that say Guitar Pro.
My son has just purchased an electric guitar any info would be great.
usually a book store will sell guitar lesson books and they often have dvds attached. I would also try out the library.
I’m trying to get beginner guitar lessons for my nephew but I don’t know which is the best to get. He has never played any instrument but is interested in learning to play the guitar now. What is the best site/book (etc) to use for beginner lessons?
This site has some good lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing. There’s lessons on chords, scales, songs and other stuff…
how should i advertise? also, what should i start off teaching? i mean i have a general idea… but im looking for someone who has experience teaching bass to tell me what they start a student off with. also, im looking to really only teach beginners. any suggestions?
Eh, I’m not exactly a teacher, I’m a beginner, but I think listening to what a beginner needs and can’t find might help. I’ve personally enjoyed the online teachings, but havn’t been able to find a good one. I’m sure that if your site is good you’ll have at least one or two people asking for more that just a website. A website just as a start up, eh?
I can’t find the guitar tab for the song barricades and brick walls by kasey chambers. I can only find the chords. If you know where any are, could you please post the link ’cause we need it for our band at school.
i have heard that its hard to find.
chords are so much easier than tabs dude.
have a look at www.ultimate-guitar.com
they will give you the chord diagrams and all that, to make it easier

He is almost done the medium level of both Guitar Hero I & II. He plays songs he has never even heard before (during the encores) at an average of about 90%. I already know that he is gifted (he was reading at 2yrs). Wondering if there are any real transferable skills in the game.
Any ideas concerning this are welcome. Thanks in advance. Faith
Playing an actual guitar and playing Guitar Hero are two entirely different things.
When you’re playing Guitar Hero, you’re just pressing buttons…there is NOTHING musical about that, despite the hype that you get to "play guitar".
When you actually play a real guitar, you have to strum strings and place your fingers on frets to produce the right notes.
There are not any skills from Guitar Hero that you can apply to playing an acoustic guitar besides possibly positioning of the instrument, and I’m very doubtful about that.
HOWEVER
Some of the best musicians started playing instruments at early ages. For example, my orchestra director started playing violin when she was 6 years old. She also learned guitar at an early age. Now, she has a doctorate degree in music, and she directs orchestra AND a guitar class at my school. She’s even been first chair violin quite a few times; got to see her in concert this weekend, and she was absolutely amazing.
I think that it would be a great idea to introduce the idea of playing an instrument to your son now. Don’t force him to though…being forced to do anything just makes someone not want to do that thing and stick with it.
I would mention more instruments than just guitar though; there are a LOT of instruments out there to play in addition to guitar, such as violin, piano, flute, trumpet, etc…
I would recommend putting more emphasis on violin or guitar the most since both instruments come in a variety of sizes, meaning that you could get an instrument that is a comfortable size for your son to use, but you could also sell it back to a music store for a larger one when he gets older.
Just don’t get an instrument that’s too cheap though; otherwise it will fall apart very soon afterwards, and you will spend more money than the instrument is worth to make repairs. Plus, playing on an instrument that’s always coming out of tune isn’t very fun.
I’m not quite sure about the minimum price for a decent guitar, but for a good violin, I wouldn’t buy anything under $250(excluding sale prices and taxes).
The best thing to do would be to find a teacher for whatever instrument your son decides to play, and then ask the teacher to go with you to look at an instrument.
You could also rent the instrument until you are sure that you want to purchase an instrument.
Some music stores even have rent-to-own programs where the money you use to rent the instrument goes towards buying the instrument.
Definitely bring up the idea of playing a musical instrument; playing an instrument is definitely a long-term skill that a person can use throughout their whole life. Even if he decides not to make a living in the performing arts industry when he grows up, instruments provide a way to be creative, express yourself, and relieve stress.
Hope this helps you!
Ive been taking guitar lessons for a little while and I have learned how to play open chords and barre chords, both e based and a based. My lessons are very self led (I tell my teacher what i want to learn, and then he teaches me. He does not say "heres what you have to learn next")
anyway, knowing how to do those two things, what is the next logical step? what should I ask to learn at my lesson today?
Sounds like you have a pretty solid enough hold on chords, now work on the opposite which is scales/lead guitar.
-If your into blues/classic rock have him teach you penatonics which are basic but easy to use and fun.
-IF your into metal have him teach you harmonic minor/ minor/phrygian which have a darker/exotic flair which can be found in alot of metal.
- But don’t completely skip over chords from now on, however. There is always more to learn in the future
for beginners
Heres a bunch of sites but you’ll have to sift through them to find what you need. Good luck.

i’lve been taking guitar lessons for a couple of years im ok at it. but my parents want me to keep going. so my question is how long is too long for taking guitar lessons? it doesnt have to be based skills-wise. i just wanna know people’s opinion on what’s the average # of year you should take lessons.
i’ve been taking lessons for over 3 years
Take them when you feel like you don’t need them anymore, but remember, there is always something to learn.
